There is a simple solution to the health care
debate. If the bill is indeed designed for the common citizen, do
the following:
1. Go out and pick 3,000 persons at random
2. Give them each a copy of the 2,700 pages of the health care bill
that is designed for them
3. Give them one week to study the bill
4. At the end of the week test them on the bill to see if they
thoroughly understand it
5. If the majority of them pass the test, and agree
with it - sign the bill into law,
but if they flunk the test, scrap the bill and come up with a
new bill that they can read, understand
and agree with.
If you won't allow someone to spend your hard earned money to buy
you a pair of shoes without your approval (to see if they fit or to
see if you really like them), why would you let someone develop a
healthcare plan for you, one that you have not personally approved
of or can even understand.
Anyone can write up a proposal and tell you to sign it and approve
of it without having you to read it. This is how they trapped and
obligated uneducated poor black sharecroppers who made their mark
with an X. These poor individuals worked for years, but could never
pay off their debt because they were merely told what was in the
contract rather than reading it themselves. These individuals
learned one lesson: "Thoroughly read it - before you sign it."
So the yearlong production, set to close after Massachusetts's
devastatingly negative Jan. 19 review, saw the curtain raised one last
time. Obamacare lives.
The final act was carefully choreographed. The rollout began a week
earlier with a couple of shows of bipartisanship: a Feb. 25
Blair House "summit" with Republicans, followed five days later with
a few concessions tossed the Republicans' way.
Show is the operative noun. Among the few Republican suggestions
President Obama pretended to incorporate was tort reform. What did he
suggest to address the plague of defensive medicine that a
Massachusetts Medical Society study showed leads to about 25 percent
of doctor referrals, tests and procedures being done for no medical
reason? A few ridiculously insignificant demonstration projects
amounting to one-half of one-hundredth of 1 percent of the cost of his
health-care bill.
As for the Blair House seminar, its theatrical quality was obvious
even before it began. The Democrats had already decided to go for a
purely partisan bill. Obama signaled precisely that intent at the end of
the summit show -- then dramatically spelled it out just six days later
in his 35th health-care speech: He is going for the party-line vote.
Unfortunately for Democrats, that seven-hour televised exercise had
the unintended consequence of showing the Republicans to be not only
highly informed on the subject, but also, as even Obama was forced to
admit, possessed of principled objections -- contradicting the
ubiquitous Democratic/media meme that Republican opposition was nothing
but nihilistic partisanship.
Republicans did so well, in fact, that in his summation, Obama was
reduced to suggesting that his health-care reform was indeed popular
because when you ask people about individual items (for example,
eliminating exclusions for preexisting conditions or capping individual
out-of-pocket payments), they are in favor.
Yet mystifyingly they oppose the whole package. How can that be?
Allow me to demystify. Imagine a bill granting every American a free
federally delivered ice cream every Sunday morning. Provision 2: steak
on Monday, also home delivered. Provision 3: a dozen red roses every
Tuesday. You get the idea. Would each individual provision be popular in
the polls? Of course.
However (life is a vale of howevers) suppose these provisions were
bundled into a bill that also spelled out how the goodies are to be paid
for and managed -- say, half a trillion dollars in new taxes, half a
trillion in Medicare cuts (cuts not to keep Medicare solvent but
to pay for the ice cream, steak and flowers), 118 new boards and
commissions to administer the bounty-giving, and government regulation
dictating, for example, how your steak is to be cooked. How do you think
this would poll?
Perhaps something like 3 to 1 against, which is what
the latest CNN poll shows is the citizenry's feeling about the
current Democratic health-care bills.
Late last year, Democrats were marveling at how close they were to
historic health-care reform, noting how much agreement had been achieved
among so many factions. The only remaining detail was how to pay for it.
Well, yes. That has generally been the problem with democratic
governance: cost. The disagreeable absence of a free lunch.
Which is what drove even strong Obama supporter Warren Buffett to go
public with his judgment that the current Senate bill, while better than
nothing, is a failure because the country desperately needs to bend the
cost curve down, and the bill doesn't do it. Buffett's advice would be
to start over and get it right with a bill that says
"we're just going to
focus on costs and we're not going to dream up 2,000 pages of other
things." (Disclosure: Buffett is a director of The Washington Post
Co.)
Obama has chosen differently, however. The time for debate is over,
declared the nation's seminar leader in chief. The man who vowed to undo
Washington's devious and wicked ways has directed the Congress to ram
Obamacare through, by one vote if necessary, under the parliamentary
device of "budget reconciliation." The man who ran as a post-partisan is
determined to remake a sixth of the U.S. economy despite the absence of
support from a single Republican in either house, the first time
anything of this size and scope has been enacted by pure party-line
vote.
Surprised? You can only be disillusioned if you were once illusioned.
The bill is being debated, written and re-written
on the floor, tweaked behind closed doors 24-7 in the hope of passage in
time to present this “Great Christmas Present” to the people.
Well people, time is getting short so
unless you want this wonderful present to land under your Christmas
tree, you’d better engage every means of communication you have at your
disposal to defeat it.It’s
time to quit being articulate.Just tell them you don’t want the damned thing!I’ll try and explain why in laymen’s terms, as simply as
possible!
The bill being presented as the “All
Encompassing Universal “Health Care Bill” has very little to do with
health care and very much to do with control… period.Passing legislation of this magnitude would provide the
government with absolute control of a major portion of our economy, our
resources and last but not least, our fundamental rights and freedom of
choice.
Nowhere under the Constitution and Bill
of Rights have the federal government been provided the powers to
legislate such a bill into the law of the land.
If the violation of our Constitutional
rights is not deterrent enough, sheer logic should be a factor in
reaching an intelligent decision. Why would it make sense to turn over a monumental share of
authority and GNP to those who have flagrantly abused and bankrupted us
with the inept and utter mismanagement of programs such as Social
Security the Federal Post Office, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, Medicare,
Medicaid, FDIC, and The Federal Reserve? More recent items of note
include The Bailout of Wall Street and the banking industry, the auto
industry, the Cash for Clunkers program and wait, (as they say on TV)….
There’s more to come.
Race, religions, morality or immorality
has nothing to do with it. The Health Care Plan is just ONE BAD IDEA!
But the smoke and mirrors continue to
fuel the argument.“Should
it pay for abortions?Should
it be mandatory?Can we opt
out?Will it cover illegals?Who should pay?Who
should be exempt?Should
elected officials be included?Should that be mandatory?” as though solving this host of
problems will make the entire bill more palatable.
So I say to those we’ve elected to do
our bidding…
Let’s just CUT THE CRAP!The Health Care Bill in its basic premise violates our
constitutional rights. Kill it and find a better cure. Through this
ongoing volume of verbal intercourse you’ve already defined the
problems!You broke ‘em… now
sit down and fix them, one at a time. And keep in mind that you additional funding does not constitute
a solution. Often the obvious answer is ADMINISTRATION rather than
REGULATION.
A
recent "Investor's Business Daily" article provided very interesting

The Health Care Program will soon be a
reality if we are not absolute and united in our convictions and
resolve. I don’t care you’re Republican, Democrat, Black or White or
striped like a zebra. I think our biggest issue is stopping the
health care plan in it's tracks. The libs and administration are on
track to shove it down our thoats in some kind of watered down version
which they think they can make palatable.
Make no mistake... once health care is on the table our liberties as
individuals are down the tube. The government rules. Think of it, the
possibility of going to jail because you didn't buy insurance. How
asinine and over the top is that?
Please, put every bit of your effort into the total defeat of the
government mandated health care bill. convince your friends, family and
acquaintances to do the same.
I would urge each
of you to make copies of this correspondence. Then send them via
e-Mail, U.S. Mail, Telephone, Telegraph or Pony Express to your local
Senators, Representatives, Mayors, Governors as well as a CC of each
directly to the White House.
Inform them that…
The U.S. Postal Service
was established in 1775 - you have had 234 years to get it right; it
is broke.
Social Security was
established in 1935 - you have had 74 years to get it right; it is
broke.
Fannie Mae was
established in 1938 - you have had 71 years to get it right; it is
broke.
The "War on Poverty"
started in 1964 - you have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of
our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor"; it
hasn't worked and our entire country is broke.
Medicare and Medicaid
were established in 1965 - you've had 44 years to get it right; they
are broke.
Freddie Mac was
established in 1970 - you have had 39 years to get it right; it is
broke.
Trillions of dollars
were spent in the massive political payoffs called TARP, the "Stimulus",
the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009... None showanysigns
of working, although ACORN appears to have found a newbitch:
the American taxpayer
And finally, to set a
new record:"Cash
for Clunkers" was established in 2009 and went broke in 2009! It took
good dependable cars (that were the best some people could afford) and
replaced them with high-priced and less-affordable cars, mostly
Japanese. A good percentage of the profits went out of the country. And
the American taxpayers take the hit for Congress' generosity in burning
three billion more of our dollars on failed experiments.
So with a perfect 100%
failure rate and a record that proves that "services" you shove down our
throats are failing faster and faster, you want Americans to believe you
can be trusted with a government-run health care system?
15%
of our entire economy? Are you out of your
minds?
Tell them this...
With
all due respect, if
you want to put the budget back on track and lighten the load on the
American citizen and taxpayer… go back to the drawing board. Take the
time and effort to evaluate and repair the damage you have already
done.
When that’s done, come
back to us, humbly and apologetically, with your hat in your hand and
show us what you have to offer.
Until then we, Americans
all, stand united in delivering in an emphatic and resounding NO to
any health care bill you put forward.

I, David William Hedrick, a member of the silent majority, decided that
I was not going to be silent anymore. So, I let U.S. Congressman Brian
Baird have it. I was one questioner out of 38, that was called at random
from an audience that started at 3,000 earlier in the evening. Not
expecting to be called on, I quickly scratched what I wanted to say on a
borrowed piece of paper and with a pen that I borrowed from someone else
in the audience minutes before I spoke. So much for the planned talking
points of the right wing conspiracy.
HITLER RANTS ABOUT OBAMA HEALTHCARE
AND RIGHT WINGERS
Like Obama, Hitler wants to round up your neighbors if they oppose
Obama's government takeover of healthcare, the plan that will make us
worse than the other socialist utopias who have screwed up t.
Group one: These are the achievers, those who strive, work
hard and are rewarded with the fruits of their toil.
Group two: The non-achievers. This group seldom exerts the
extra effort required to rise above their station and attain their
perceived goals. They are dissatisfied with their lot in life and
spend much of their lives in envy of the achievers.
Group three: This segment consists of those who contribute
absolutely nothing, yet demand equity based on the labor and
achievement of society as a whole.
Some ride bicycles, some drive Chevys and Fords and others drive
Cadillac's. Some just don't.
That's just the way it is.
In our Republic we have a Constitution and a Bill of Rights. These
are the cornerstones on which our Republic was founded. Within this
framework are three guarantees, the right to Life, Liberty and the
Pursuit of Happiness.
Man's life, liberty and property are held sacred and protected by this
constitutional framework and the government is simply an extension of
mans basic rights. Any attempt to engage in the confiscation or the
conscription of the fruit of one mans labor, by either man or
government, in order to provide goods or service to another is an act
of illegal plunder and as such should be protested and resisted by
all.
And so on to the issues of "Cap and Trade" and "Government
Health Care".
Whether or not each of these issues may or may not have perceived
benefits in the eye of the beholder is not the question or the issue.
The question is, "Are they acts of illegal plunder?" and "Are they in
defiance of the very Constitution and Bill of Rights this country was
founded on?" The simple and unequivocal answer in each of these
instances is a resounding yes.
As such they should be resisted to the extreme. Call your
congressman, your senators, your representatives, your family, your
friends and your neighbors and stop this madness.
If love of country and our way of life are not enough to
instill a sense of reason
The national debt as of this years budget is an estimated 1.7
Trillion, five times the amount of last years budget. All within one
year. With Health Care and Cap and Trade this number will rise
exponentially.
Do we want to place our faith and trust in the same people who ran the
railroads into oblivion, who oversee our failing Postal System, the
Barny Franks and Senator Dodd who ran oversight on Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac which triggered our current state of economy, to those
entrusted with our Social Security program, Medicaid and Medicare who
have voted themselves exempt? Do we want these folks to control our
very livelihood and well being?

Say "NO"
to Obama's Nationalized Health Care.
The undersigned view the currently pending 2009 Congressional
Healthcare legislation as UNTRUTHFUL,
UNWISE and UN-AMERICAN.
The President says it is needed because 46 Million Americans
are uninsured. But other analysts point out that
approximately 14 million of these are already eligible for
programs like Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP, but just haven’t yet
signed up. Approximately 18 million make more than $50,000 a
year with over half this number making over $75,000. These
individuals have simply chosen not to purchase it. Lastly,
over 10 million of the uninsured are not U.S. citizens. So the
true number of uninsured Americans who cannot afford health
insurance is not 46 million, but instead 4 to 8 million. This
is less than 2 - 3 % of Americans. So this legislation is based
on UNTRUTHFUL hype.
Many of us agree: YES, for the
4-8 Million of uninsured Americans, this problem must be
corrected in a fair and compassionate manner. But our
American current Healthcare system ranks as the best in the world
by many metrics, including:
better access to preventive cancer
screening than Canadians; better survival rates than Europeans
for common cancers; better access to treatment for chronic
diseases than patients in other developed countries; lower income
Americans are in better health than comparable Canadians;
Americans spend less time waiting for care than patients in Canada
and the U.K.; Americans are more satisfied with the care they
receive than Canadians; Americans have much better access to
important new technologies like medical imaging than patients in
Canada or the U.K.; Americans are responsible for the vast
majority of all global health care innovations.
Additionally, the thrust of the
legislation relates to controlling and allocating benefits rather
than dealing with high cost elements of the current system.
Moreover, the bill would destroy the current private insurance
that many Americans have elected for themselves. For any group
of Politicians to mount an assault to correct a 2 - 3% problem
by dismantling our current, unsurpassed system is
extremely UNWISE on the face of it.
In 1776, Americans threw out a
Government to pursue the right to Life, Liberty and Happiness,
as cited in our Declaration of Independence. But legislation
that puts nameless bureaucrats in charge of our health in lieu of
decision between a doctor and patient - - is a clear assault on
our well-being. In some cases, to save $$, those with less
than some arbitrary time-to-live may actually be deprived of their
life in the name of cost-cutting. This kind of paternalistic
zealotry is totally UN-AMERICAN . Legislators who defer to
this kind of Un-Constitutional attack on the American people
deserve to be deprived of any votes whatsoever by the American
Citizenry. Rather, we must band together, in Tea Party
fashion, to achieve a Constitutional governance that
responds to the People’s will.
Accordingly,
the undersigned hereby Petition our legislators to, in the
spirit of our Founders, throw off this ‘King George’ mentality.
We solicit you, as the People’s representatives, to oppose
this UN-AMERICAN affront to our Health, Life, Liberty and
ability to Pursue Happiness.

MOUNT VERNON — U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen can expect high emotions and
tough questions Saturday afternoon at a town hall-style forum
here.
The Washington Democrat faced a
contentious and divisive crowd Thursday in Coupeville at a League
of Women Voters-sponsored forum. The crowd split between people
who want a reformed, government-sponsored option and people who
fear that such an option would lead to steep tax increases.
Larsen will hold another
session at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Skagit Public Utility District
No. 1 offices at 1415 Freeway Drive in Mount Vernon.
Nels Kelstrom said opponents of
government-run health care were “rude” and “overbearing” at the
Coupeville forum. Nels said the crowd booed and made noise
whenever Larsen or anyone else said anything promoting health care
reform.
“Their whole intent was to shut
down anybody who expressed a view other than their own,” Kelstrom
said.
Andy Stevens, who organizes
“Tea Party” events in Anacortes to oppose higher taxes and
government growth, said the reports on health care reform protests
across the country overstate the temper of the events and dismiss
the protesters as mouthpieces for the Republican Party.
He said people at these forums
may become angry, but only because they are not getting the
answers that they deserve.
“Nobody goes there with the
object of being disruptive, but they damn sure do want answers,”
Stevens said. “They want answers, and they’re not getting answers.
They’re doing the next thing: They’re being assertive to get the
answers. I don’t think that’s out of line.”
Tea Party member responses
from the Meeting in Coupeville
Already the left wing
attack dogs have responded to the article via the newspaper
forum response, Their primary agitator under the alias of
Tea-Time writes:
Quote: Andy Stevens said "people may become angry"? Andy
Stevens and his clan ARE and HAVE BEEN angry. NOW they wave
signs worrying that they "can't afford Obama" while
HILARIOUSLY during the Bush years they stood under the gas
station sign that went from under $2/gal to nearly $5/gal and
we simultaneously shipped BILLIONS of dollars to the middle
east to rebuild their country while our deficit skyrocketed!
Oh.....its laughable. "Support the President, Support the
Troops" Andy Stevens, and "Don't Forget 9-11". I'm a little
disgusted and even embarrassed that he was even included in
this article based on his corner behavior
and
Andy - the answer you want is likely not the answer you want
to receive because its not what Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck
told you was true. Not getting the answer you want does not
constitute an uprising, ok?
My direct and immediate response
Quick note to Tea-Time and
affiliates.
I see you folks are still around and using your classic playbook
guidelines, i.e., "If you don't like the message, attack the
messenger."
I don't mind. Experience has taight me that when you stand up
for something you believe in you're also going to become a
target of the Bevis and Butthead mentality folks like you.
Fortunately I've developed a pretty thick skin over the years.
Fire your best shot. It won't change the facts, or your
perception of them.
Sorry folks, but the great "Health Care Debacle" and "Cap and
Trade" are far more about legislative powers and government
control than they are about the welfare of Joe Citizen.

Responses
from folks who attended the
Coupeville event
My
wife went to the event in Coupeville. She got there ½
hour early and the hall was already packed with Obama
supporters. So she stood outside with a couple hundred
other people. The event was totally one-sided
-basically a Liberal Circle Jerk.
Be sure and get to the PUD early as their tactic
seems to be to announce an event at 2PM and get all
their supporters there by 1PM to fill up the hall.
Thks so much............ FYI I went to the Rick
Larsen event in Mt. Vernon today ------ couldn't even
think about getting inside ....... 5-6K people
easy.......... 20% stupid --- 80% MOB ...........
since I had already heard what he was going to say
from last Thurs. nite in Coupeville ........... with
packed room and 50+ more outside ...... I decided no
need 4 me to stay at this one ........ was beaming
from ear to ear that America's MOB is out in force.
Heard from a friend who was "outside" listening on the
outdoor speaker......evidently was an open forum of
people from the audience asking ? 's vs. the
controlled liberal event in Coupeville where no one
could talk or clap but only the moderator who asked
?'s that were written out ahead of time ........... BS
at the best.........Larsen continues to LIE about the
Bill by saying that it is better than maintaining the
STATUS QUO of the last 55 years......... no one bought
it ......... he lied in Coupeville by trying to say no
Illegal's would be included in the Health Care Bill
.......lots of boooooooos ..........in a nutshell
....... AMERICA IS WAKENING ............... makes one
take heart and HOPE FOR CHANGE ...........ON OUR SIDE
OF THE LEDGER. 2010 IS COMING SOON! AMERICA WILL
NOT LET THIS STAND ............ IF THESE CONGRESSIONAL
MORONS BELIEVE OTHERWISE ........ GOOD 4 THEM
.......... THEIR EPITAPH WILL READ ....... DIDN'T
LISTEN - WAS BRAIN DEAD AND RECALLED FOR STUPIDITY.
.............. HOPE U CAN FILL ME IN ON WHAT OCCURS AT
THE MTGS IN BELLINGHAM AND LOL ............. OBAMA
.......... "ORGANIZED BASTARDS AGAINST MAINSTREAM
AMERICA" ......... SORRY 4 THE HARSHNESS .........
BUT W/44+ CZARS SO FAR .......... IT IS TRUE TO THE
MAX.
Andy, here's my take on what happened at the meeting
in Coupeville last night. Note that I did not stay for
the entire event. Once I recognized that the event was
tightly scripted and controlled, I left to seek
other, less painful applications of my time.
Since Larsen doesn't spend much time in Anacortes and
my schedule prevents me from attending the few Skagit
County events he will conduct, I took advantage of the
proximity and drove down to Coupeville last night and
participated in that event. Even though the sponsor
(League of Women Voters) professed bi-partisanship and
neutrality on the issue, none of the 7 speakers were
against a government option for health care and only
one (Republican State Representative Barbara Bailey,)
spoke out about not increasing taxes to pay for it.
The audience was not permitted to speak, but we were
allowed to submit written questions. The first
question was directed to Larsen and was, " I do not
have the right to expect my neighbor to provide me
with a meal to eat, a house to live in or a car to
drive, so why should my neighbor have to pay for my
health care?" Larson stood and began a long litany
about cost increases, number of people uninsured, etc,
etc...but he never answered the question. Several
members of the audience yelled out "Answer the
Question!" but Larsen just bagan to pontificate again,
never answering the question. At that point, it was
evident that the only communication that would be
shared at the meeting was the script they had
prepared. There would be no dialogue...and certainly
no pesky questions answered. I got up and left,
accompanied by several others in the audience. I noted
that in the King 5 news coverage, others followed the
example later in the program, when they grew tired of
the BS from the panel of speakers.
It seems that the media and politicians are not
interested in listening to the public. Instead, they
are using their energy and communication outlets just
to demonize those of us who have long been pleading
for representation in government, but have only been
screwed, by government and mainstream media.
Before I left .... I did talk to the group out in
front holding the banner that said "HEALTH CARE FOR
ALL" - I ASKED THEM WHO - IN AMERICA - DID THEY KNOW
THAT ARE DENIED HEALTH CARE? OF COURSE, THEY COULDN'T
ANSWER ........ ONE GUY MEEKLY SAID "THE CHILDREN" ---
I TOLD HIM HE WAS INCORRECT AND EXPLAINED THE "CHIP"
PROGRAM ........... I TOLD THEM ABOUT MY 89 AND 85
YEAR OLD PARENTS WHO HAVE HAD NUMEROUS MEDICAL AND
SURGICAL PROCEDURES AND HAVE NEVER - NEVER - EVER NOT
HAD IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO THIS COUNTRY'S GREATEST
MEDICAL CARE. I TOLD THEM ABOUT NUMEROUS FRIENDS THAT
HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ARTERIAL HEART BYPASSES WITHOUT
WHICH WOULD HAVE THEM PUSHING UP DAISIES AT THIS TIME
... BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY - I ASKED THEM IF THEY HAD -
IN FACT - READ THE BILL - OR AT LEAST READ THE
DIABOLICAL "EXCERPTS" THAT ARE INCLUDED WITH THE
INTENTION OF POWER OVER THE PEOPLE ONCE AND FOR ALL
............ OF COURSE ........ THEY HAD NOT NOR DID
THEY WANT TOO.

1. Will we be forced to use doctors that are assigned to us by the
government? Can theCongressman or Senator guarantee they will not
vote for anything that will infringe on our ability to choose our
own doctors?
2. Will we wind
up with rationing of medicalservices as more and more people have
access to government run health care? Can they guarantee they will
not vote for anything that will result in rationing of medical
services?
3. Will there
be waiting lists for standard procedures and/or diagnosis
necessary to be treated? Can they guarantee they will not vote for
anything that will result in waiting lists for standard procedures
and/or diagnosis?
4. If they
insist on voting for socialized health care, will they immediately
change their health insurance and their spouse and children's
health insurance to the government option? If not, since the
government run is supposed to be better than the current health
care options, why won't they change it? Do they not have
confidence in the plan's results?
5. Will our
medical decisions be made by government employed bureaucrats or by
doctors? Will the final decision rest between the doctor and the
patient or will the final decision for treatment lie outside of
the doctor patient relationship?
6. Will
individuals be able to pay for treatment out of their own pocket
or will they be required to have insurance, even if they do not
want it? 7. Will they sign a pledge not to vote on any
nationalized health care bill until they have it in hand -
including all amendments - for at least 72 hours? 48 hours? 24
hours?
8. During the
debate on the so-called stimulus package, the President’s
estimates on future unemployment and economic recovery proved to
be wildly off-base. Why should Americans now believe that they
will not be forced out of the private coverage they enjoy, as
basic economics would dictate?
9. Despite the
President’s assertions that health care reform will save money,
the reality is that plans proposed by Democrats would cost
taxpayers between $1 trillion and $2 trillion. How does this save
money and how will we pay for this?
10. If, as the President claims, a government run option is
essential to maintaining honest competition in the health
insurance market, why is it not also true that we need a
government-run competitor in the fast food industry, neighborhood
babysitting, or Major League Baseball?
11. Proponents
of a government-run option claim that it will compete on a level
playing field with private insurance providers. In that case, will
the government-run plan operate under a for-profit model and be
forced to pay all applicable state, federal, and local taxes?
12. How will we
meet the growing need for physicians and medical professionals if
the government-run plan pays lower than market rates to physicians
while forcing them to participate or lose a majority of their
patients and their livelihood?
13. If the
government mandates that all Americans purchase health insurance,
it must also define what qualifies as health insurance. Can you
provide us your definition (with details please) and explain how
this definition will not limit innovation and choice in health
care?
14. According
to the House Democrats’ plan, a family of four with an income of
$88,200, four times the federal poverty level, would qualify for
health insurance subsidies. In your view, is this a subsidy for
low-income Americans or an effort to use taxpayers to put more
health care under the purview of the federal government?
15. The new
Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness
Research is charged with determining what treatments should be
offered to patients. Do you believe that these personal medical
decisions should be made by patients in consultation with their
doctors, or by unaccountable bureaucrats?
16. Why are
there no actively practicing physicians included in the membership
of the Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research?
17. If the
final reform proposal is controversial enough that it will not
receive the necessary 60 votes in the Senate, Democrats have left
open the possibility of using a procedural move to pass it with
only 51 votes. Do you believe massive changes to such a vital area
of American life should be pushed through in this manner with only
51 votes?
